Social media users began sharing the claim days after the presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, claiming that the reason was that the singer announced her support for the Democratic candidate.
A Facebook post claims that Coca -Cola has ended its professional relationship with singer Taylor Swift after she announced her support for the Democrat’s candidacy following the presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris , but that is false . The claim was originally shared as a joke. And as of September 27, 2024, there are no official statements from either Coca-Cola or Swift announcing the cancellation of a long-term partnership they have had since 2013 .
“Coca-Cola ends partnership with Taylor Swift following announcement of [support] for Harris: “We do not support her appearing in commercials,” reads the message, which includes an image of Harris dressed in a light blue suit and one of the singer drinking a Diet Coke.
The claim originated on a satirical website
At ElDetector we did a keyword search on Google and found that posts with the same claim that Swift and Coca-Cola had ended their working relationship had circulated in English before, so media outlets reported that this information was incorrect and explained that the claim was originally published as satirical content.
The same search yielded a Facebook post from September 20, 2024, stating the end of the agreement between the singer and Coca-Cola, in English, accompanied by an image of the artist and the soft drink’s logo, but this one does specify at the end of the text that the content is a joke. In addition, in the comments section there is a link to an article that, at the end of the text, indicates that it is a satire and specifies that it is not real.
At ElDetector we did a reverse image search for that photo on TinEye and the results showed a post from Esspots , a satirical content website that is part of a network of sites called SpaceXMania . Clicking on the first one displays a text , in English, published on September 14, 2024 entitled: “Coca-Cola ends its long-term relationship with Taylor Swift: “We do not support her sponsorship.” Both the labels at the beginning of the text and the end of the note indicate that the article is satire and that the information is not real.
After reviewing older results from the previous keyword search on Google, we also found a Facebook post made on September 14, 2024, by the SpaceX Fanclub page and it also states that the “post is satirical.”
We reached out to Coca-Cola’s press department for comment, but as of the time of publication of this verification, we have not received a response. However, we did not find an official statement from Taylor Swift or Coca-Cola confirming that their employment relationship has ended, which is strange for one of the most famous artists in the world, and the same is true for the company.
Conclusion
It is false that Coca-Cola has ended its working relationship with Taylor Swift after the singer announced her support for Kamala Harris following the presidential debate on September 10, 2024. The statement came from a website dedicated to sharing satirical content and was later also disseminated on social media. These posts do specify that the information is not real. In addition, neither Swift nor Coca-Cola have officially announced the end of their working relationship. Read here how we choose and assign our labels in elDetector.
